We’ve recently caught up with our client Charlotte from @buildandstyle. With an illustrious career in the fashion and interiors industries, Charlotte has caught the attention of design enthusiasts and discerning homeowners as they follow her through the process of a complete demolition and rebuild project in Essex.
With an unwavering commitment to interior design and luxury living, Charlotte has navigated the planning processes, overcome the challenges of renovating through the pandemic, and turned her vision into a stunning reality.
But what distinguishes this renovation is that Charlotte’s build is on the site of her Grandma and Grandpa’s home, a place that holds happy childhood memories and a special place in her heart; the ideal inspiration for creating the perfect family home.
Here we are granted a glimpse into Charlotte's world, where luxury is not just a word, but a way of life.
Please can you introduce yourself and explain the motivation for starting your social media platforms and what you hope your followers can learn from your account.
Hey, I’m Charlotte and I’m one half of ‘The Style Sisters’. We organise, design and style our clients’ homes; we have a wide range of clients including a lot of celebrities. I come from an interior design background and love creating beautiful spaces for people to enjoy.
Back in 2020 I started my own building project which was a full house build from scratch for my family. It was a 2-year labour of love, but we are now moved in and loving our home we have lovingly created!
I decided to create my @buildandstyle page to express my creativity, the highs and lows and the reality of what it’s like building a house and project managing it personally. I now share my home, design and items that I have tried and tested and love to my followers to also enjoy in their homes.
How would you describe your interior design style?
I would say I’m a classic girl with my interior design style. I love to mix the old with the new to create my own signature look. I’m a huge fan of monochrome and natural textures which are mixed all around the home with a pop of colour and greenery.
Classic style will never date and by accessorising with a few key pieces that you love really brings your designs to life.
Who, what or where has been your greatest inspiration for your home?
Visiting beautiful places on holiday, restaurants and hotels always inspire my creativity and designs for my home. Pinterest is amazing for getting visual ideas of what could work around your home and creating moodboards, they really helped me to piece everything together!
How would you describe your bathroom?
My bathroom is like an open plan hotel / bedroom suite vibe. My matt white Hepworth freestanding bath is the main feature in my master bedroom as you walk in and is a showpiece. My guests always comment on the bath as they walk into the room!
What does ‘luxury bathroom’ mean to you?
A bathroom should be a place where you can unwind and chill out and the word luxury bathroom literally says exactly what it should be: a luxurious experience for you to enjoy!
What were your main goals for the bathroom space? And how have you achieved them?
We had quite an awkward small space to work with for our main bathroom. I knew I wanted a walk-in shower area with big format tiles and a marble top sink vanity unit with lots of drawer storage for product, but this left us with no space for a bath.
We decided to make the natural stone freestanding bath a beautiful feature in our master bedroom and incorporate it into the open plan bedroom/bathroom design. It flows beautifully and the design is seamless between the two areas.
How has The Luxury Bath Company helped you accomplish your bathroom goals?
The Luxury Bath Company has been amazing in helping us create our dream bathroom area. The customer service team were great, sending samples to help us choose the finish of the bath and keeping me updated with the delivery. I couldn’t have asked for more.
What other brands and products have you successfully used in your bathroom interior design?
I designed my bathroom vanity unit and had a company called Harvey George create the joinery for this. I then had a bespoke piece of marble fabricated for the top of the vanity and it looks beautiful, I’m so happy with it.
What were the main challenges you experienced? And how did you overcome them?
The lack of available bathroom space was my biggest issue and then creating the best layout for that space. By placing the bath just outside of the bathroom entrance has made it still feel a part of the bathroom space yet a feature in the bedroom, it actually works really well.
What has surprised you most about The Luxury Bath Company’s products?
The quality and price of the freestanding bath is amazing. I would highly recommend The Luxury Bath Company to clients and friends.
Why did you choose the Hepworth freestanding bath design?
I chose the Hepworth bath as the shape is stunning, it has curves and lines but also structure. It looks so elegant and stylish in my open plan bedroom. I opted for the matte finish as I feel it looks more modern and matches all of my fittings in my interiors. I have been so impressed and happy with my bath choice I wish I could have more baths in the house!
What tips and advice would you give someone who is renovating their bathroom space?
Think about how you will use the space daily and what type of bathroom storage you will need for products etc. You will need drawers or shelves for products and things like loo roll which is often overlooked.
The materials and metals used in your bathroom also make a big impact, porous materials like marble will need looking after more frequently, and certain metals like brass will need regular cleaning to maintain their shine. Things like this definitely make more of an impact on the upkeep of your bathroom space.
Is there anything you feel you should have done differently in your bathroom renovation?
No, I’m super happy with everything I have chosen in my bathroom, and I really enjoy my bathroom space and love spending time in there.
