Spring is in the air: How to clean and care for a natural stone bath
4th April 2023
Have you had the urge to ‘spring clean’ yet? If not, prepare – it’s on its way. Spring cleaning is a tradition found in many cultures to welcome in the new season and rid the home of the accumulated dirt, dust and debris from winter’s coal, oil and wood fired heating systems. Although heating systems have modernised the ritual persists, and at The Luxury Bath Company, we love it – is there anything more pleasing than a fresh smelling, clean beautifully styled bathroom?
If you’ve already invested in a natural stone freestanding bath, you’ll appreciate how the heightened experience of luxe bathing in your own home needs protecting at all costs. There are few things in life that deliver such an equal measure of unabashed luxury, ambiance, and sanctuary.
How to clean The Luxury Bath Company’s freestanding baths
The Luxury Bath Company’s freestanding baths are made from Geokarst. Geokarst is our exclusive natural stone resin material which makes routine cleaning and hygiene simple and virtually effortless; hardwearing and tactile but also designed to last a lifetime with proper aftercare – ideal for busy households.
The good news is the best cleaning products for stone baths and basins are readily available in local shops and at low cost. The Luxury Bath Company recommends:
- Washing-up liquid
- Bar Keepers Friend
- Microfibre cloths
Rinse after each use
Geokarst is a low maintenance material, but still requires some aftercare to keep you designer bath looking its best. Soaps, shampoos, body wash and bubble bath can all leave a residue. For most days, a quick wipe and rinse after use (this is where the handheld shower and bath mixer tap comes into its own) stops any mineral or soap accumulation at the high tide mark or where your feet have rested.
Deep clean the bath a minimum of once a month
Every bath requires a regular deep clean, and your stone bathtub is no different. If you live in a hardwater area you potentially need to clean the bath more regularly – the water is prone to leave mineral deposits once the water has dried. (Conversely, if you live in a soft water area there’s good news, the resin protects from the risk of stone degradation associated with soft water).
- Rinse the bath thoroughly with warm water to remove the tide mark/ residue of soap.
- Use a soft cloth or sponge to gently clean the entire surface of the bath, paying attention to any stains or discoloration.
- For tough stains or tide marks, make a paste of Bar Keepers Friend or bicarbonate of soda and apply to the affected area. Let it sit for a few minutes before gently scrubbing, and rinse.
- Dry the bath with a soft towel to prevent spots and streaks.
The Luxury Bath Company’s exquisite collection of natural stone bathroom fixtures also include complementing stone basins and shower trays which also benefit from these cleaning methods. With the stone’s natural characteristics in mind, it’s important to remember to avoid using abrasive chemicals, strong chemicals, and harsh solvents such as paint remover, and never ever use a metal scouring pad.
