How to create the ultimate luxury shower space

20th September 2022

As our name suggests, The Luxury Bath Company are dedicated luxury freestanding bath lovers, but it’s not just stone bathtubs we favour. It’s the whole vibe premium quality bathroom products project and how a well-designed bathroom space transforms how you feel, from a revitalising morning shower blast through to a late-night relaxing soak.

As with other spaces in the home, showers need to strike that delicate balance between highly functional and aesthetically on point. As an important bathroom interior design element, it can be easy to slip into focussing on the visual impact of a shower, rather than how you can improve the act of showering through mindful planning.

How to add pure luxe to a shower

The Luxury Bath Company are involved in an amazing array of luxury bathroom remodels both domestic and commercial bathroom renovations and want to share some observations to help you achieve a truly luxurious showering experience.

Shower roleplay

Yes, really, pretend to take a shower in the designated space. This is one of the most underused yet critical steps to make sure the fixture placements are going to work best for your needs. Run through the actions you take when showering – are the shower controls in the right position? Do you need a custom sized shower tray? Where are you going to store the shampoo? Roleplay minimises the risk of overlooking issues and helps identify ways to improve the shower experience through the best shower design.

Introduce a handheld showerhead

A large rain shower head and powerful water pressure delivers a sensational shower, but it also has its limitations. Install a handheld showerhead to complement the rain shower. The flexibility gained from bringing a water source to where it is needed is a gamechanger – think showering the children, watering plants, and cleaning the bath.

Reposition shower controls

Shower controls are traditionally placed on the wall near to the shower head, it makes sense for easy regulation of temperature and pressure. Locating shower controls out of the water coverage zone near to where you enter the shower means they are accessible without getting wet – ideal for heating the water before you get in.

Create a shower niche

A rust attracting shower caddy or bulky shower organiser makes a compact space feel even smaller. A better solution, in terms of style and function, is a bespoke tiled built-in shower niche; an opportunity to transform the utility of storage into a beautiful spa-like feature. The general rule of thumb is to avoid placing a niche on an outside wall to restrict the build-up of moisture and mould.

TIP: Take an inventory of your favourite products to create a niche to accommodate them adequately.

Creating a luxury bathroom is more than simply choosing fixtures and fittings; it’s about their thoughtful placement to enhance each showering experience to create an oasis for self-care and wellbeing.
