Fusing function and form: How to choose the best bathroom taps
23rd December 2022
Renovating any room of your house requires creative vision, meticulous planning, laser sharp focus, and hard work, but a bathroom remodel takes it to another level – functionality is as important as the aesthetic.
Attention to detail is crucial: is the shower space big enough? Is the bathroom storage big enough for a family? Is the bathroom sink a good size for shaving? It feels endless. However, there is one essential bathroom design element often near the bottom of a bathroom renovation to-do list (even though it has the power to make or break the success of a bathroom renovation), and that is the choice of bathroom tap.
Whether you are dreaming of an indulgent ensuite sanctuary or a stylish family bathroom, there’s surprisingly plenty to think about with respect to taps; after all, bathroom taps are used for every bathroom activity. Spending time to identify which are the best taps for your bathroom design is an investment you will be happy you made and helps avoid an unsuitable purchase.
Find out your home’s water pressure
Water pressure is the force at which water moves through the pipes. Every home has a different water pressure and influences the tap and shower type you should buy so they function at their peak performance. The Luxury Bath Company’s taps and modern shower valves detail the minimum working pressure in the specification section of the product descriptions. Be mindful that a low-pressure tap works well in a high-pressure system, but a high-pressure tap in a low-pressure system does not deliver the same results. If you are unsure about the water pressure you have, ask your plumber to advise.
How many tap holes are there?
The number of basin or bath pre-drilled tap holes dictate the type of bathroom taps you need. The Luxury Bath Company’s contemporary basins have either one or none – a single hole for a basin mixer tap or the opportunity for freestanding or wall mounted taps. Baths typically have either no pre-drilled tap holes or two for a deck mounted bath filler. Joyfully the mixer, freestanding and wall mounted taps for both basins and baths are available as matt black taps, brushed brass and chrome for absolute creative freedom.
What are the taps made of?
The Luxury Bath Company is obsessed about the form and aesthetic of our stylish bathroom taps, and equally so with their supreme functionality. While you can’t see the internals of the taps, the materials used define the user experience.
Solid brass is the ideal choice. Resistant to corrosion, brass taps promise longevity. As a luxury tap manufacturer, we only use impurity free pure brass which confirms quality but also avoids the brass taste you can get from cheap brass taps. Note too, the use of ceramic discs in our tap specifications: more hard wearing and long lasting than rubber washers, easier to operate and more energy efficient with Coolstart ceramic disc technology.
Did you ever think you’d be so invested in choosing something as simple as bathroom taps? Choosing the right colour tap can completely transform a bathroom, but it is only part of the interior design challenge of a bathroom renovation.
